Just searching for the good stuff .
There. I fixed it.
That should be the headline.
Falling leaves, blue sky and short-sleeves in a month usually known for frost and sweaters. It’s unseasonably warm and only this morning has the rain settled in for an extended visit, but not before a glorious sunrise unfolded in the sky like an unexpected gift.
The real headlines I am seeing across the news pages are about voter suppression, businesses forced to board up their windows and dire warnings about a virus raging through our communities like wildfire. Collectively, we are bracing for post election violence and weeks of uncertainty. Clearly, this America is not great.
Four years ago we made a mistake.
We couldn’t possibly have known how damaged a man we had elected or how deeply he would drive wedges into our families and friendships. It’s an old trick, divide and conquer. It isn’t a new one. We’ve seen this one before and the results were tragic.
It’s an ugly truth. A mad experiment played out on the world’s stage. A colossal failure of both imagination and heart. They say that when we know better, we do better. Pray that we now know better …

There is a part of me that can’t help but remain hopeful. It is the part that cannot fathom a society that chooses to live in the chaos we have known these last four years. I am hopeful beyond expression that we have learned some deep truths about ourselves and are now poised for a walk back toward the light. We have a lot of work to do, no doubt.
Walk toward the light.
Better still, be the light.

Help someone’s soul heal” -Rumi
And now, we wait for our cue to begin.
Let’s get back to the work of healing.
Let’s get back to the business of love
